OH MY GOD - HAS IT BEEN A YEAR?
Okay, okay, we hold our hands up - without realising it, it’s been a year since we last updated the news page (actually, a year and three months, but who’s counting? You are? Oh, picky, picky...) You, dear reader, would be forgiven for thinking that nothing has happened to your favourite Beat Group in the last 12 months (alright, alright - 15 months!) Well, you would be wrong. Oh, very wrong...

2012 was not only quite a busy one for us, but also an interesting one, with quite a few gigs that were out of the ordinary. Where do we start? Well, I suppose the most unusual work we have had is a little party called the “Haworth Haddock,” based on the Keighley and Worth Valley  Railway, a preserved steam line. For a modest fee, one Saturday every month, you can book tickets for a train ride up and down the line. If that were not enough, there is a real ale bar on board, you get fish and chips (Haddock - geddit?) and, just to completely tip your excitement levels over the edge, when you arrive at Keighley station, there is a band playing to entertain you! (That is us, tell me you guessed! Oh, please keep up...)
From our point of view, we enjoy doing it because we get to set up in peace and quiet in the fresh air, with loads of room, in great surroundings, the audience is in a party mood, and it’s a relatively early finish. Oh, and there’s a real ale bar, and we get fish and chips too!
We did two of the “Haddocks” in 2012, and the beer festival at the end of October, and, while the beer festival was absolutely freezing (open air in winter???) we had a great time. This year we have three shows booked - March 30th, June 1st and August 24th - so why not come along, a splendid time is guaranteed for all!  You can book tickets by clicking on the logo at the top.

Huddersfield Food and Drink

Another great evening was had in the summer playing in Station Square, Huddersfield, at the annual food and drink festival. Everyone was in a party mood, and mercifully the weather stayed fine. Shows like this and Lotherton Hall below really add to our enjoyment of our job.
This year the festival is held from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th August, and, while we can’t promise to be playing there this year, if you are in the area it is well worth a visit!
Pepper Hearts

We see the last item that we posted in the news was a Christmas extravaganza with our old mates The Pepper Hearts. Well, we had such a blast - and it sold out - that we decided to do it again in December 2012. What can we say? Same again - sold out, and everyone had a ball. We don’t see why we won’t be repeating it again in 2013, hopefully this time we will warn you in time to get tickets.

Lotherton Hall

One type of show that we don’t get to do often enough is the afternoon, summer family event. It’s always great to see the full age range of people enjoying themselves. One such event we really enjoyed last year was the Sixties themed weekend at Lotherton Hall, near Tadcaster. We received a great welcome from the staff, and the whole afternoon was a thoroughly good time. The good news is that we are back this year, so mark 18th August down in your diaries!

Ackworth Steam Fair

This is one that we did a few years ago, and really has that feel good atmosphere - the show is mainly for the exhibitors, and boy can they drink! Lots of beer, fresh air, and - mud! Our spirits weren’t even dampened by the fact that we got a flat tyre. And Pete got to be reunited with his twin brother (the man, not the parrot, you idiots!)
Yes, dear reader, you heard right! Although we still play at various venues in Liverpool, after a change of policy at The Cavern Club we have not been back to our favourite venue, but on 1st November 2013 we are playing at the “Cavern Mecca” charity event - we can’t wait, and will post more information here when we get it! Honest.
