… Or Earl Studmuffin of Upper Ffanwy, has been playing guitar for as long as anyone can remember, and longer than that. His great musical influence is Wilko Johnson, whose dynamic playing style in a drums-bass-guitar trio has helped give birth to Pete’s own way of making it sound like there are two guitars in the band instead of one. Thankfully, Wilko’s influence hasn’t been great enough to make Pete shave off all his hair!
During the late seventies, Pete played bass in sixties band Midnight, during which time young, fresh-faced Kev started to follow them around in an effort to learn the craft of bass playing. Pete finally relented and, in a ten minute session one afternoon, taught him all he knew about the instrument. Since then, Kev has never looked back, which has led to some scary moments when he joins a motorway at 70mph.
Sometime in the early eighties, Pete joined a new band who called themselves Flashback. The various members over the years have all come and gone, but Pete still soldiers on, sometimes on his own!
His spot of George Formby songs on the ukulele always go down a storm, as does his other party piece with a toothbrush and a tube of Anusol. Unfortunately, the judge has banned him from performing that one in public ever again.
Little known facts: It is said that his skin is the same as a dolphin’s and that he was born in outer space!
Claim to fame: He is a Freeman of York, which means he can drive his cattle down York’s main shopping street, something which he does as often as he can. He has found many of his ancestors buried in and around York - mostly in cemeteries. So far he has resisted the urge to dig any of them up.
